How We Found Her

One day, my mom and I were driving on a main road when we noticed something on the side of the street. As we got closer, we realized it was a tiny kitten lying completely still. She was barely breathing and looked unconscious. When my mom picked her up, she had no reaction at all. In that moment, we truly thought she might already be gone.
We still don’t know exactly what happened to her. It’s possible she was hit by a car, but she had no broken bones. She may have been abused or left there intentionally. What we do know is that she was alone, helpless, and very close to death. My mom immediately drove her to the vet, without knowing if she would survive the ride.
The Vet Visit and the First Signs of Trouble
Miranda stayed at the veterinary clinic for a few nights. At first, her eyes didn’t show any obvious sings of infection, and everything seemed stable. The vets cleaned her, bathed her, and helped her regain strength. Once she seemed more alive and responsive, we were able to bring her home. However, not long after arriving at our house, her condition suddenly changed. Her eyes became extremely swollen and infected, to the point where they began to bulge outward. It was painful to see, and it quickly became clear that she couldn’t see at all. She was only around two to three months old, and the situation was very serious.

Losing Her Eyes to Save Her Life
The vets explained that Miranda needed a very difficult surgery to remove both eyes. Because she was so young, the surgery was risky, and there was a real chance she might not survive it. We had to wait about a month, feeding her carefully and helping her gain strength, before it was safe enough to operate.
When the time finally came, Miranda went through the surgery. Her eyes were removed, and after a few days of recovery and regular vet checkups to remove stiches, she was finally strong enough to come home again.

Life as a Blind Cat
At first, we kept Miranda in a safe, enclosed space so she wouldn’t hurt herself. Everything was new to her, and she had to learn the world in a completely different way. Slowly, she began using her whiskers, hearing, and sense of vibration to understand her surroundings. Today, she walks freely around our apartment. She moves slowly and carefully, sometimes bumping into walls, but she has learned the layout of the space surprisingly well. In areas she feels confident in, she even walks faster. Watching her adapt has been incredible. She gets along well with our other cats and even our dog. She loves to sleep in my bed or in my mom’s room, and she is extremely affectionate. She enjoys cuddling and playing just like any other kitten.

What’s Next for Miranda
For now, Miranda is staying with us until she is old enough to be sterilized. After that, we will begin actively searching for a permanent home for her. We plan to take professional photos and share her story through an organization that helps cats find families across Europe. We believe it’s important that her future family is willing to pay an adoption fee. This shows responsibility and commitment, and helps ensure she goes to a home where she will be truly valued. Until then, Miranda is safe, healthy, and loved. She eats well, sleeps peacefully, and lives a full life despite everything she has been through. Her story is proof that even when an animal loses something as significant as sight, they can still gain a future.
